ecology workshop

Method
The workshop will be made up of three parts. The first part will focus on introducing the participants to the effects of climate change, the second will observe the methods and actions that are possible to take to lower our impact and the third will divide the participants into groups. After previously discussing the effects of it, they will be asked to define problems related to climate change. Afterwards, every group will be given one recognized problem for which they should find a more sustainable solution than the one currently being used.

Problem
As a young girl once said: „Change is coming, whether you like it or not“. No embellishments necessary or even wanted. Globalization, the plastic epidemic and the overuse of world resources has driven us into a corner. Since the mid-20th the level of CO2 gas and other human-made emissions have drastically risen and as an effect the planet’s temperature is rising 10 times faster than it did when the earth was transitioning out of the ice age. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the acidity of surface ocean waters has increased by about 30 percent. As young leaders and people taking the first steps towards building their lives, we have the opportunity to take action and if not stop, at least slow down the effects we produce. We have the capabilities, we have the knowledge, let’s use them.

Goal
Firstly the workshop should introduce the participants to the effects of climate change, globalization and the misuse of resources. Secondly, the workshop should show the changes and actions that they can take on the path towards a more sustainable future. This will be aimed at learning what they can do individually, and, on the other hand, what they can do as part of bigger groups and organizations that have the same goal. Finally, the participants will be divided into groups and will be required to solve recognized ecological issues. The goal is to show them that they can, in fact, make an impact and that green solutions exist and are very applicable.

Expected results
By the end of the workshop the participants will have learned more on the effects of climate change, will have gained more awareness on how it influences us as a part of a larger ecosystem and what are the actions that we can take to make Earth a better and more healthy home for ourselves and everyone we love or will love in the future.
